Joy Unspeakable is a new piece of contemporary drama for women, girls and anyone who cares about them. Based on autobiographical material, it explores eating disorders - why they are all about food, and nothing to do with food.

Currently in development, it will invite audiences to join the conversation about mental health and consider whether medicalised definitions of mental health in fact mask more profound disorders in our culture and way of life?

Joy Unspeakable is the debut production of the company and will premiere in the North West in Autumn/Winter 2019.

A works-in-progress version of Joy Unspeakable was presented in Summer 2016 at the Octagon Theatre Bolton’s REVEAL festival. Further development took place via ten Applied Theatre workshops in 2017 exploring self-esteem, body image and eating disorders, with over sixty young people and vulnerable adults in Bolton and Halifax who identified as having mental health difficulties. These workshops were facilitated in partnership with organisations including Headspace Bolton, Bolton at Home, Bolton Lads and Girls Club and Orange Box Young People's centre.
